Why It Helps to Control Your Narrative

Taking control of your company’s narrative.

It’s a nice idea, isn’t it?

Imagine if you knew exactly what was going to happen and when.

Moreover, imagine if you had the perfect response ready to release to the market whenever it was needed.

This would, of course, relieve a significant source of day-to-day pressure for those running a business. But aren’t we basically talking about looking into a crystal ball?

Well, no.

In fact, controlling a company’s narrative is a lot simpler than you might think. And really, all it comes down to is good old-fashioned planning.

You see, the reality is, most companies out there are continuously chasing their tails.

Something happens and a press release must be drafted. Then, work begins on the follow-up content to engage investors across as many channels as possible. Eventually, by the time everything been released, and the company has a chance to breathe, the cycle has started again!

Often, however, it really doesn’t have to be like this.

The power of taking a step back

Stop to think about your next three months of operations for a moment.

On the one hand, you know there will inevitably be some events you cannot foresee over this period.

But on the other, there will also be many others that can.

These may be scheduled to take place on a specific date, such as financial results. Or, alternatively, they may be due to take place before a certain deadline at an as-yet-unspecified date–things like closing a deal, renewing a licence, or even hiring a new senior staff member, for example.

Regardless, because you know they are going to take place, the opportunity to prepare for them in advance is there for the taking.

After all, although communicating with the market through a variety of medium is critical, doing so in an extremely timely way is how you really attract, engage, and inspire investors.

This is, of course, easier said than done.

If it wasn’t, everyone would do it.

But this is where we at Dynamic can really step up to help…

You see, as well as leaning about your business and helping you to shape your narrative, a key part of our strategic communications service is our monthly catch-up calls.

We use these to make ourselves aware of upcoming events and anything else that is going on in your business.

And it is with this information that we can go away and prepare content around these events that allows you to control your narrative as effectively as possible.

This could include anything from producing an RNS to drafting social media threads. From updating a website page to authoring an analytical article for the financial press.

What really matters is, when you give us the green light, we know we will be ready and equipped to present your business to the market in a targeted, urgent way.

There’s another important aspect here, too.

By preparing for the ‘preparable’, you’re much freer to react to events that cannot be foreseen when they inevitably arise.

This doesn’t just mean manging negative news flow, though that’s a bit part of it.

But it can also mean making the most of an update that has far exceeded expectations, an excellent drilling result or clinical trial, for example.

Good news or bad news…when you do the necessary preparation, you’ll find you’re in a much stronger position to take control of your own narrative and present your company to investors in its best light.

If that sounds like good sense to you and you’d like to learn more about how we can help you do it, don’t hesitate to get in touch and we can talk some more.
